Ashcombe Road signage |

On 6 August 2021 we installed a new board at the Ashcombe Road station site to replace the original one which was deteriorating. The new board was funded entirely by the Group. The original, the first signage to commemorate the WC&PR, was unveiled by John Penrose, MP, on Friday 9 Dec 2011, watched by a crowd of about 25 consisting mostly of members, plus a Colonel Stephens ‘look-alike’, and a few dressed in period costume. In 2011, in addition to the interpretation board, permission was obtained from North Somerset Council to erect signage to mark the route of the railway in that vicinity by naming the footpath/lane which runs along the old track bed as ‘Colonel Stephens Way’ and two Colonel Stephens Way signs were installed at the same time. The WC&P Railway Group is grateful for a donation from the Colonel Stephens Society towards this signage. Remaining funding for the first sign was by the Group and members. We have also erected boards in Portishead, Clevedon, Ebdon Lane area, and Worle. In addition we have designed four boards, funded by North Somerset Council, which are installed along the new Greenway path at: Mud Lane, River Yeo (north), River Yeo (south), and Wick St Lawrence station site.
